If you care about this blog, read until the end.
God provides me with more than I need, and I’m grateful. I have included some of my favorite quotes in this goodbye letter.
A special thanks to special folks I met along the way at the end (maybe you’re in there).
This will be a quick one, I promise (that’s a lie).
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit emotional right now.
After writing 202 articles, recording 19 podcasts, and tweeting 12400 times (really?!), it’s time to call it a day. I never intended to be a content creator. I’m a trader who inadvertently gathered a small audience.
I deleted all my articles except the interviews.
I deleted my podcast.
I mostly always wrote for myself.
To understand my emotions better and improve the feedback loop. I’m a slow mf. Sometimes it saddens me that it took me a decade to reach profitability. Most of the time though, it makes me proud that I never gave up. Each of us (you, reading this) has a beautiful and unique journey.
Beauty lies in our scars.
I’m having my best year (so far) ever trading, I’m healthier than ever and I’m still dating my wife. I’m a competitor, that’s probably why I never gave up trading. But there’s somewhere where I constantly fail, and it’s been promoting my work. It wasn’t a goal at first, but I got caught up in the numbers between Substack and Twitter.
I guess that’s when something changed. Since last year, I’ve had a hard time seeing blatant frauds making incredible money off their Substack, Discord, and co.
For the folks who are here for the numbers, here you go…
I streamed my trading and shared my strategies, templates, Python code, and more. Here are the results:
3150 readers on the Substack;
6600 followers on Twitter;
19 purchases for my Discord (closed for new entrants since last March, don’t DM me).
I’ve made c. $20k from my consulting activities since I created the Substack (3 years) and always have been transparent about it from year 1.
When I see some mf openly saying they’re short NQ since 17000 have hundreds of thousands of followers. When I see Joseph Burns tweeting platitudes and making 6 figures a month with his blog. When I see 10-year-old traders make 6 figures with terrible Discord. I can’t help but tell myself that I’m not made for that game.
I sold 23 courses in 7 months (4 at the current price, all the previous ones below $200). I gave more courses away for free than I sold.
That’s how terrible of a furu I am.
My opening rate decreased from 45% to 36% in the last 6 months. I was spending up to 20 hours on some of my articles. It took me 1 hour to delete them all. I understand that many folks blew up, but the numbers don’t lie. Interest in my work has been decreasing.
I view it as ‘people don’t value my work’. The truth is, I’m not a marketer I could continue to just Tweet and post. I tried, but I always come back to the same frustration. And I can’t engage in drama to get more visibility. That’s not me. In the end, I trade for a living, the rest doesn’t matter. It’s just my ego. I know it, and I learned my lessons.
I honestly believe that my Substack had the best content for scalpers out there. I had folks sending me emails telling me they became profitable with the Substack. It’s incredible (it’s *only* 3 folks). The only alternative is my course which will be offline on Sunday (still available for people who purchased before).
If you have my old emails, good for you.
In the end, if I put my time spent on Substack and Twitter on improving my Trading, I’m pretty sure that I’ll make more than if I ever turned into a great marketer. So, that’s the bet I take.
My advice if you’re still struggling:
Record yourself trading and watch it at the end of each day
Try to trade with an almost naked chart: a moving average, tick candles (I like 512 on NQ), or flex renko (8/8/80). I cover this in the course and have probably 20h+ of video of me trading them.
Trade prop firms aggressively once your results are ok.
Join a POD of 4/5 traders for increased accountability.
Once you reach 20k and have a few months of profitability, you can (imo) fund your personal account and trade it more conservatively (5MNQ).
Important note: if you get the course before the end of the week (then I remove it), I’ll add you to a Discord with other folks who bought the course. I will create this Discord next weekend and send an email to folks who have purchased the course (not to the folks I gave away). I will NOT be in that Discord. It’s just for you if you want to find folks with a similar style to yours/be in a POD with serious folks.
There is no need to ask me to join my POD, I trade with a small group of folks in Hampton and we’re not open to the public.
Now, onto a few notes to some of you who have been special in my journey.
To my online mentors:
I learned valuable lessons from each of the traders below that helped me be the man/trader I am today.
DragsV: You opened my eyes to technical analysis. Your levels are the most accurate I’ve ever seen. You showed me that “it’s possible’.
- : The person who sees the market like I do (at least, it seems)
Mr. Crudele: Simply a legend of the game. Too many gems to summarize here
Ninja: scalping crypto (fucking legend even though we didn’t interact much)
Rainin: The consistency and hard work.
Frunky frog: Volume profile
Posty: Thank you for sharing your system.
Aaron: A clean, simple, and repeatable trading plan.
MetaaL: The ADR framework.
Dan: Battling through extreme adversity.
- : Never giving up. I hope you’ll share your story one day.
TFO: creativity in coding
Garth & Nec: NT8 coding to the next level
Paul: NT8 Wizard
- : Psychology
Brannigan Barrett: Excellence and durability
DrNobody: Life & Philosophy
Chris: Sometimes, it’s ok to give up (hence why, I give up on this social media thing)
Don: great scalper. Probably one of the best on Fintwit.
Tricky: you’re a good trader. Stop the snacks though.
Last but not least, Pasha: if only I had 10% of your strength. You are amazing.
To folks who have supported my work over the years (or more recently):
Fred, Algo, Paul, TFO, Goshawk, Elaine, Joel, Kyle, James B. (congrats on the wedding), KodawariTea, Larry, Eraser 4 Paper, Stable, Kalson, CGI, Matteo (you have a bright future), Declan, Emma, Nec, Ace, Jim, Beardo (we met a bit late but you seem like a great guy I’d get along with), Renard and of course, William. I know I’m forgetting some folks and I’m sorry. Thank you guys, you’ve been absolutely fantastic.
What’s next for me?
Go from 2 to 5NQ by the end of the year and that’ll be pretty cool. Already went from 5MNQ last year to 2 NQ on more than 50% of my trades in June. Get sub 15% body fat (from 25% last year to 18.2% now). Be the best husband for my fantastic wife. Won a pickleball tournament. Run a half marathon.
For once, I won’t ask you to like, share and subscribe :)
And to finish my work, a special note to the most brilliant trader I’ve ever seen. Lucas. If you read this, go make history.
To my best friends. Arthur for all your creativity, tips, and knowledge. Remi for always believing in me.
And of course, the biggest thank you to my Wife for her endless support, kindness, and patience in this crazy journey. Je t’aime.
